A 27-year-old lady was murdered and her body dumped at Karuma Falls, Kiryandongo, Uganda.
Martha Acio, according to a staff identity card found on
her body by police, indicates that she was working as a cashier at the
power utility company.
The body was recovered by fishermen.
The officer-in-charge of Karuma Police Post, Mr Johnson Onapa, said the body was seen floating on the river banks by Mr Willy Oryem, one of the fishermen, last Friday morning.
“He alerted us and when we went to the scene, we found her national Identity Card bearing the names of Martha Acio, 27 years, who registered as a resident of Juba Road in Ojwina Division, Lira Municipality. She also had a staff identity card of Umeme indicating she is a cashier,” Mr Onapa said.
He added that the deceased’s body was already decomposing
and physical examination revealed that she was killed from another place
two days earlier.
The Kiryandongo Resident District Commissioner, Mr Linos
Ngompek, said the deceased is suspected to have been killed by her
boyfriend who is working with a Chinese company which is constructing
Karuma Dam.
He said preliminary investigations by police and other
security agencies revealed that Acio left Kampala a week ago to pick her
seven-year-old daughter in Lira, and when she was going back to
Kampala, she branched to see her boyfriend who is working at the
construction site in Karuma where she spent a night together with her
child.

“Relatives and police have since placed announcements on
local radio stations in Kiryandongo, Lira and Apac districts to search
for the missing girl, ” Mr Ngompek said.
Mr David Mugabe Alele, who is a relative of the deceased, said Acio went missing on Tuesday.
He said the deceased together with her daughter reportedly left Aduku on January 21, enroute to Kampala via Lira town, but they are not sure which vehicle they boarded and what happened afterwards.

“Martha Acio’s phone went off on Tuesday and we started
looking for her not until on Friday morning when we got a call from
Police in Karuma informing us that the body of a certain lady had been
found offshores and a national identity card bearing the names of Martha
Acio was found on her,” Mr Mugabe said.
He said when they saw the body, they found that it was of
their relative who was missing. The body was taken to Kiryandongo
Hospital where an autopsy was done on Saturday.
It was discovered that her neck was broken.
